Macron: “The Last Dance”

Macron: “The Last Dance”

The Outsider's take

Emmanuel Macron took the rostrum at the 81st United Nations General Assembly today in what is expected to be his final appearance at the assembly as France's president, noticing the room's lack of audience, he gave us a clear idea, of the level of power France is holding nowadays on the international stage but also the decline of influence coming from its president, going through his last year in the seat of power. He arrived in New York having already done his most consequential business.

Speaking in the morning session alongside Brazil, the United States and Qatar, the French president came to the podium fresh from a meeting with Donald Trump, after which he announced the two countries would "act together" to ease tensions on energy markets, protect critical infrastructure in the Middle East and guarantee freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz — the chokepoint through which a fifth of the world's oil passes, and a flashpoint since the Iran escalation earlier this year.

Macron also reaffirmed his support for the Palestinian and added the case of the West Bank, pointing out the violence against Palestinians.
